Pretty much every sympho/power metal band with female vocals eventually gets compared to Nightwish, a and I never was a fan of (although I remember listening to their debut "Angels Fall First" when I was in school). Amberian Dawn are no exception, especially since they're from Finland and play female-fronted power metal in the vein of Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica. That said, I like this particular album more than anything by Nightwish, and consider it one of the best examples of "lady metal" out there.

The songs are very catchy, especially on the first half of the album, and the chorus in "Arctica" is surprisingly complex. The track "Virvatulen laulu", being a kind of non-metal opera duo, definitely stands out even if it isn't particularly catchy. Overall, even if this album isn't too heavy compared to most of metal stuff on by blog, it's woth listening to because of the tracks like "Talisman", "Come Now Follow", "Arctica", "Sampo", or "City of Corruption", and it's the best album of Amberian Dawn with Heidi Parviainen on vocals.
