"The sound is heavy, very modern, polished and extremely professional. Now “polished” might not be the sound you look for in your black metal, but it works with the style the band utilizes. On Leviathan Second to Sun blend black metal tremolo picking and vocals with synth ambience and atmosphere similar to what you might find on a Kardashev record. It is a quite unique sound, at least to me, but it works. I get a distinctly industrial vibe from this, which is a nice alternation from the “usual” style that most black metal bands employ..."

That's a very good description of the sound on the latest album by Second To Sun (although I'm not familiar with Kardashev, but would check out them too). Anyway, Second To Sun, the band that the regular readers of my blog already are well familiar with, now describe their style simply as "Scandinavian black metal meets groove metal in the vein of Pantera, with Russian-language lyrics about mysticism, parapsychology and historical events". Compared to their earlier releases, there are much less "ethnic" elements on "Leviathan" regarding both music and lyrics, but that's the only downside of this album. Haven't listened to its instrumental version yet, but this version with Gleb Sysoev (ex-Deafknife) on vocals sounds very powerful. The lyrics, mostly horror-themed, are edgy as always (but no more edgy than the lyrics of an average black metal band).
