БМ - "Конструкции Звуков" [1985]

Artist: БМ
Title: Конструкции Звуков
Genre: Minimal Electro, Synthpop, Experimental
Country: USSR
Release date: 1985 (2009 re-release)

Track List:
  1. В Машинный Мир
  2. Машинистка
  3. Постамент
  4. Деталь
  5. Завтра
  6. Автокоммутатор
  7. Звуковые Конструкции
БМ/BM was a moniker of Alexander Somov, the pioneer of Izhevsk electronic music scene (which was an unique cultural phenomenon, quite strong during the 1990s but unfortunately dead by now). He never received any sort of musical education, but it didn't stop him from recording 3 tape albums with the help of his friends at the discotheque he worked in. His traces were lost in the chaos of the post-Soviet 90s (there are rumors that he was murdered), but one of his tapes was unearthed and re-released on CD in 2009.

Musically, it strongly reminds me of some works by Kraftwerk, and I'd say that the title of this release is quite appropriate - it's indeed "sound design" or 'sound constructions" rather than music in the traditional meaning of this word. Of course you shouldn't expect much from a guy that was recording it at his home in 1985, using only two cheap tape recorders, yet it still is a very interesting artifact from the early days of Izhevsk scene.

Kesson Shoujo - "Childhood in Housing Complex"

Artist: Kesson Shoujo
Title: Childhood in Housing Complex
Label: CMBCMW
Genre: Ambient / Lolicore
Country: Japan
Release date: unknown
Size: 26 mb

Track list:
  1. August
  2. February
  3. March
  4. April
  5. May
  6. July
  7. January
  8. June
  9. September
  10. November
  11. December
  12. October
Kesson Shoujo was an ambient/experimental/noise project from Japan, who later changed name to わたしのココ. No wonder they decided to change the name, because Kesson Shoujo apparently is also a name of some futanari manga. No, I'm not interested in dickgirls :3, but I'm interested in good music, and I found "Childhood in Housing Complex" to be a quite good release. It is absolutely not noisy or harsh at all, just nice and cute minimalistic ambient/electronica...

Trippin' Anonymouses - "Idle Mode" [2009]

Artist: Trippin' Anonymouses
Title: Режим Холостого Хода (Idle Mode)
Genre: Dark Ambient / Industrial Noise / Minimal /Downtempo
Country: Russia
Release date: 2009
Size: 76 mb

Track list:
  1. Memories (intro)
  2. Life In Motion
  3. Madness
  4. Sovushka Anthem / Марш Совушки
  5. All Further And Further
  6. Introversion
  7. Dark Empty Days
  8. Sovushka / Совушка
  9. Hollow
  10. Хрущевки (outro)
According to one of the members of Trippin' Anonymouses, "Idle Mode" is a result of collaboration of 6 people, who frequented one of the jabber chat rooms for people with social phobia and hikikomori syndrome. All the music was made rather for fun than for any serious plan. They were not much concerned about adhering to standards of any particular musical genre, so the result was a weird mix of dark ambient, noise, musique concrete, downtempo and whatever else. A nice soundtrack to urban trips in the outskirts of Moscow... or maybe a reflection of thoughts in a sociopathic mind? Anyway, it's very haunting, weird and atmospheric music. Enjoy!

Cracked Core - new tracks [2010]

Artist: Cracked Core
Title: non-album tracks
Label: Mental Excitement
Genre: Electronic / IDM / Minimal
Country: Russia
Release date: 2010
Size: 17 mb

Track list:
  1. Freedom In Lost Underground
  2. The Restored Signatures
These two tracks are the latest works released by Cracked Core. Just like any other releases by him, they can be distributed freely, as if they're in public domain (Cracked Core doesn't like any licenses, even free ones like Creative Commons or GFDL). The first track is based on samples from the classic "Stalker" movie by A.Tarkovsky, and the second one uses samples from the Japanese low-budget movie "Cat Girl Kiki", which is a part of the series called "The Akihibara Trilogy". By the way, both movies are just great, and I strongly advice to watch them too (if you hadn't yet).

It's also worth mention that the guy behind Cracked Core regards his music as not very interesting when compared to the other projects on Mental Excitement netlabel. To him: no need to be so shy, you're making quite good music!..

  13. Исчадие [Tension rmx by Cracked Core]
Cracked Core is an experimental music project by one of my friends (though I never met that guy in person, but whatever), and I promised him that the first album posted in this blog would be his debut full-length release. Well, here it is. To be honest, it's not my favourite kind of music (I prefer EBM, darkwave and noise), but it's very good for a first release. The album cover says all about the atmosphere on this album: it's inspired by grey industrial landscapes at the outskirts of Moscow, and the feeling of isolation in a large city...
