The first all-female psychobilly band from Eastern Europe? Wow, I'm already interested. Wait, they're from Ukraine? Honestly I even couldn't think that Ukrainian rock scene had something like this in 1990s. The music is a bit generic and forgettable, but the very fact of existence of such band is interesting.

"Ethnic Frenzy" is the latest release by Niggas With Guitars up to date, and it's definitely much better than their early stuff. This album is less "easy listening", more experimental and drone-based. Check out the tracks "Ethnic Frenzy" and "E.F.O." - that's what I call really good ambient music. Unfortunately, there's almost no info about the band. Their myspace states they're from Nigeria, but it's most likely a joke, and they're probably from the United States.

One of my LiveJournal friends pointed me to this project, and I decided to give it a listen - mostly because of the funny band name. The music turned out to be surprisingly good, but not "extreme" or "noisy" at all. Some music catalogues define Niggas With Guitars' genre as "drone", but I can't hear any drone on this album, it's just instrumental ambient / easy listening. Overall a decent release, somewhat comparable to Kesson Shoujo's "Childhood In The Housing Complex". But if you haven't heard about this band before (and you probably do), I recommend to check out first their latest album, "Ethnic Frenzy".

Well, now it's only a few minutes until 8th of March, so I'll post one more album by a female-fronted band. Inner Fear were an avantgarde gothic metal band (with electronic/industrial overtones) from Brno, Czech Republic. Unfortunately, now they're split up, and "Symbiotry" seems to be their last release. That's a pity, because the music is great, and Inner Fear aren't like those dozens of new generic "female fronted metal" bands. Tracks #1, 4 and 8 are especially catchy, and I like the atmosphere. Hope the other two albums of Inner Fear are as good as this one.

One more good punk release with female vocals. Honestly I don't like earlier albums of Deadline that much, but this one is really great. Very nice vocals, extremely catchy melodies... almost every song on this album is remarkable. That's how female fronted punk rock bands should sound.

If you liked the new album by The Silver Shine and want to hear more music of such kind, then you'll probably like Kitty In A Casket. Though they're not from Hungary (but very close to it geographically), they're very similar to The Silver Shine both musically and lyrically. And yes, I'm sure all fans of good female vocals in rock music will enjoy this album too.

Actually, I'm not a big fan of rockabilly or psychobilly, but: 1) this band is from Hungary; 2) they have a female bassist who's really skilled; 3) their music is good, energetic and sounding more like punk than psychobilly. Need I say more? Here's a review of this album, taken from CDbaby:

""Saint or Sinner" is the 4th full-length album by the loudest punkabilly trio named The Silver Shine. Ten songs including fast psychobilly mixed punk rock and slower rockin' anthems with catchy sing-along choruses. Their screaming punky guitars, crazy slappin' upright bass and furious drum attack combines energy and technical skills. Krista Kat's soulful vocals with Ati EDGE's rough voice gives high diversity and harmony to the album.

The opening and the closing tracks are fast, psychotic metalbilly tunes lyrically dealing with a serial killer and negative human aspects. The second one is a rocking anthem titled "Dreams" featurning Chris Suicide from US psychopunx The Triggers. This one is playing in Orvell's imaginary world parallel the world around us nowadays. The next track is about fanatics who are into hot-rod buliding, or fallen in love with Harleys and stuff like that. This one's titled "Made of Chrome" and musically strongly influenced by Motorhead. "The Chased" is another song Krista sings, and it's about our fight against haters and their poisoning attitude. The next track's titled "Fire Burns in my Head" and it is a reminiscence of a pyromaniac regarding the best moments of his life. "Your Slave" is a simple, mid tempo rock and roll song about the beautiful babes. All in all, the guys felt it's more important to give a voice to these simple human feelings and leave all the zombies, monsters and horror behind.

Formed in 2004, the hard-working trio has toured several times all over Europe, Brazil and rocked the USA; a total of 28 countries worldwide. Seeking inspiration from Social Distortion to Motorhead, The Silver Shine has managed to toss their influences with originality in a blender to create fresh and addictive music. Custom painted black/red upright bass, extreme energy, vintage microphones are the trademarks of the band on stage you cannot mistake for anything else.
